Davickers, what's the best way to paint the ovals? I want the letters red and background black. Ive tried the taping then painting and its never turned out very well. Right now everything is all black.

Man! That's exactly what I want to do. The making tape worked well! I was a little weary of masking off the letters, but that looks great. Now all I need is a little patience. I screwed up my ovals three times by starting the next step too early. Haha.

Sorry man...I may not be the best person to ask about something quite that detailed. It took me 2 weekends to complete everything. First weekend ended up being just the ovals and the second weekend I was able to finish the badges, but a lot more time then I originally planned for. All I did was strip the ovals, sand a bit with 1000 grit (there were a couple small chips), and tried to polish each one before moving on to the paint. None of my letter are painted, I was going too, but ended up in the same boat as you. Nothing seemed to come out as I wanted. I finally had the wife's steady hands help mask off the letters to get as far as I did. Your truck looks great though, the red letting will definitely complement the black!

Thanks Man! As mentioned before, most of the credit goes to the wife! I had some problems as well... Its also a lot easier to take the badges off. lol. I left the tailgate badge on thinking it would be easier and it took as much time to complete as both the fender badges together.

I found that here in WA with 100 degrees that my paint dried way to quick so the paint wanted to come off with the paint. I ended up doing three quick coats within 6-7 minutes and peeling off the tape right away. Then let each sit for a couple hrs to cure. I added three coats of clear coat over the whole badge with 15 or so minutes in between each coat.
