Default Want to change transmission and filter

Hi Guys, can anybody help me. I want to change my automatic transmission fluid and filter. Can anybody help me with the right part number for the filter, gasket and the correct oil I need to replace. I have a 2008 F150 Crew Cab 5.4L. It is the 105th Harley Davidson Anniversary Model (Vin number 1FTRW14528FB70855). Would really appreciate any of you tech guys out there who could help to advise me. Thanks Paul

Filter: Motorcraft FT138
Gasket: FEL-PRO TOS18706
Fluid: MERCON V

Part numbers will differ depending on the manufacturer, and you do not need to use the ones above. You will, however, need to use MERCON V ATF regardless of who makes the fluid.

Hi Martian, thanks for your advice but not sure that I need to change that filter, I was under the impression that I only need to change the FT105 and gasket 7A191. Do you think that is ok as I am only doing a change not a flush. That's why I have posted for advice.

That transmission only has one filter. If the parts matched your truck in whatever parts catalog you're using, it should be just fine. Since you're going to be taking off the pan anyway, consider replacing it with the Dorman pan that has the drain plug.

You can get a filter/gasket set from wix as a single kit.
The fluid is mercon V, castrol or valvoline will be your best bet unless you go to dealer and buy Ford fluid. I would get at least 12 quarts. Most just drain whatever fluid is in the pain and swap the filter then refill. There is no plug in the torque converter. Don't over tighten when installing the pan.

As stated above, FT-105 for the filter and if you have the original pan gasket it is reusable.

If not, get this factory reusable rigid metal/rubber gasket.
Amazon Amazon

My local dealer had it for about $30, it's a really nice gasket and will not leak.

My truck had the trans fluid changed by the previous owner, they used an after-market flexible gasket and also screwed a bolt in at an angle only going in about 1/4 of the way (prob express lube shop). I tapped the hole and got it nice and straight again.

You guys are confusing the OP.

Filter for the 4r75 is the FT105
The pan gasket is reusable.
4.5-5 qts of any Mercon V. Currently running STP in mine, I'll soon switch it to SuperTech from Walmart as it ran fine on it and is cheap. You will only be able to drain about that much in a drain and fill. A flush will take about the 12 qts...but we aren't doing that.

I HIGHLY recommend this pan:
Amazon Amazon
I have it and it is so easy to change the fluid. You don't need to change the filter every time you drain the pan. This pan WILL fit the 4r75 even though Amazon says it will not. Read the reviews...

Best of luck!

Not saying you have to do this but I bought 12 qts and after I dropped the pan and putt a new filter and new pan with a drain plug, I measured what came out and added that amount back in. Then after driving it during the week I would remove the plug from new pan and drain what I could and fill again with new stuff. did this 3 times till I used up all the new 12 qts. Its not a flush but close to it I guess. At least I knew I had 12 new qts of trans fluid in there. the plug in the new pan made it easy
