I had the same problem. I'd brake and my steering wheel would shake. My pads and rotors were replaced and the shaking was fixed

If the dealership can't find anything, stop going there... Steering wheel shake WHEN you apply the brakes is either a bad bearing OR rotors... The ABS module pulses 280 times a second... You won't feel that pulse in the steering wheel if the rotors were perfect... You would hear the bearings and you can feel them if you pull the front tires up off the ground and wiggle the wheel side to side... Have the current rotors turned or have new QUALITY rotors installed... Even new China made rotors come out of the box having a wobble... Ask me how I know!!!!

Additionally, if the whole truck shakes when you hit the brakes, your problem is ALSO in the rear... If JUST the steering wheel shakes, your problem is just the front...

Good luck and let us know the fix please!!

Cheers!!

Have your rotors resurfaced and have a good day.

I would have to say get your rotors checked again. Symptoms sound like they are warped.

Is the OP still watching the thread? Also the person who replaced the ABS sensor?
If so, is this a light pulse, maybe 3 per second, felt mostly through the brake pedal?

First off, I fully endorse all the brake-related posts above. Brakes are my first thought and I've seen this too, mostly while cold. I even took my truck to a local rip-off shop and they told me the brake system, rotors pads, etc., were perfect. Go figure.

The ABS on the 2007 is almost completely silent, BTW. MY old truck would hum like a hive of angry bees when the system was engaged, but the new tech is so fast it barely causes any noticeable vibration. In spite of all that, I'm still thinking that the pulsing is a problem with either speed (rotation) sensor(s), or the actual abs solenoid(s) that actuate the pulses. All of that input and output is controlled by the ABS control module, though, which I assume is what the previous poster replaced. If that module is misbehaving, weirdness could happen.

On the other hand, if any component outright fails, you'll get a code and idiot light, My approach, and maybe I have too much faith in Ford, is that I can live with the pulsing as long as the braking system is intact.

And Ahoy, mateys! Its National Talk Like A Pirate Day!

This occurred to me after posting, but can any of you techies comment? Is the front wheel speed sensor prone to clogging up, making it report a slower speed/faster deceleration, than actual? is it optical, or mechanical?

Yes I'm still watching, I'm going to get my rotors checked again by a different shop. My 01 had the buzzing ABS, so I know how that feels and it isn't like that. It's more of and overall vibration/shake. I'm assuming it's my first assessment, which was warped rotors...not sure how the dealer could have not noticed it while driving, but I'm going to make sure someone rides with me so that I KNOW they've felt it.

I would say it could report a different speed or no speed but that is just a defective sensor... I guess if you get a piece of metal scrap in the tone ring, you could get a bad reading from a good sensor... There is a magnet in the sensor and a tone ring around the CV joint (front) that has evenly spaced lands and groves (for the lack of a better phrase)... google images "ABS tone ring" and you will see... I think the actual term used is "hall-effect"...

Cheers!!
