Yeah I don't have a tuner. I do want one though.
It didn't help my attitude when I got just absolutely worked by my friend's stock Z71 with 35's... (on a closed course and all that). Not to mention I had a large head start, lol. Oh well.

Well, they aren't really "under" the valve covers. The electrical connection sticks out of the covers just like on the 04-06 but they made the hole smaller so you can't pull them out. Just make sure you can evac and charge the A/C, have big seclection of sockets and extensions, and can repair the oil dipstick tube or have a new one on hand if you plan on removing the valve covers.

Sorry not to have replied before now but I havent don the rockers and adjusters, if you get as far as taking the valve covers off and have the money i would do them and the phasers if you have done the timing compnents already. If you can wrench on a somewhat medium level it want be a problem just time consuming.

Recently picked up a 2005 with 37k on it, and the more reading I do the more paranoid I become about the Cam Phaser issue. Currently don't have a issue, did notice a bit of a tick when restarting warm. Wondering if replacing the solenoids to the latest rev would be a decent preventative step. Parts are under a $100 bucks so wondering if this is a no brainer.

I'm still trying to change the driver's side solenoid, but this TX heat is so unforgiving, barely even got to change my passenger side. I don't wanna be driving with the original VCTS on the passenger side and the revised newer one on the passenger side though...lol.

I'll post a pic of what I had...phasers and timing chain looked good to go so I'm not changing mine.
