using smaller winter tire size question-
hey all. i have a 2008 screw 4x4 with stock scorpion 275/55r20.
I want to install proper snows. I want to know if shorter tires are ok? namely 265/50r20 which are 30.6" diameter where the stock tires are 31.9"
Why? theres limited size choices in 20" as most of you know. I found a sale tire in the above size, i wonder if its close enough? its only 1.3" shorter. Does this matter (apart from the speedo calibration.. I have a gryphon and will adjust speedo). Has anyone done similar

i can't see why you couldn't. i got a feeling you will get more wheelspin than before, but i know for a fact the pirellis are absolute crap in the snow. not to mention nice flatspotting in the cold weather. personally i would get the 275/60/20 bridgestone blizzak's if you want to a damn good snow tire.

Tires
Unless you have something different regarding your vehicle, you should be able to go down to 17" rims. I have an 07 that came with 245/70R17's and that's the size of snow tires I have on it right now. You want narrower tires with correct tread design to bite through the snow, grab on ice and clean out any snow as they rotate. This is assuming you plan on mounting them on corresponding rims.
I picked up some Cooper Discover M&S that seems to match the snow requirements and we'll see how they work when it's slick out.
My 2 cents.
