Wow, high expectations - OCD - ducksinarow, lol. Some OCI's are 10-12K miles. Don't sweat the small stuff. "Fixing it" could mean an engine rebuild.

Check out this page, some auto makers say a quart every 600-1,000 miles [BMW N63 engine, lol] is normal! Personally it's a bit much, but a quart every 2,000 or so like in the Land Rover Disco I had wasn’t end-of-the-world, I just added it and it ran great, no check engine lights or anything!

BTW, my 1999, 220K mile 4.0L Jeep XJ requires no oil added between 6K mile oil changes. I just consider myself lucky with that engine.

Yeah, a quart between changes is nothing to be concerned about. Completely normal and no problem with your engine. Add oil as needed and go on with your life

My 06 has 138,xxx miles and I never have to add any oil between oil changes. I run valvoline 5w30 max life in the summer, and 5w20 maxlife in the winter. I've run that since I bought it at 60,xxx miles and 3 yrs old. Never had an issue.

OP,

My truck has 220k, and sounds the same as yours. 1 quart every couple thousand miles, and a little "smoke" on the first start, especially if it sat over the weekend.

Still runs like a top, you've got nothing to worry about. Try to make a habit of checking often. Life can distract you, and you don't want to be running 2 quarts low when you get to the next oil change.

A good percentage of these engines use oil. Mine is about half a qt every 5k. Nothing to worry about, in fact, it's considered normal. FYI, Subaru's can use 1 qt every 1000 on a brand new engine and not fall under warranty, since it's 'normal'

x2 Some engines burn oil and some don't. It usually doesn't mean anything. The prejudice is that no oil burn is good. When in doubt have the oil analyzed.

If there are no other engine issues, so what?
A quart of oil between oil changes is not normal for all but certainly not a reason to get upset or schedule an overhaul.
Engine running good?
Spark plugs not fowling?
No oil leaks?
Leave it be and buy that extra quart of oil.

I want to throw a curve for you to consider. All engines burn some oil. 1 quart between changes is totally in the range of normal.

No curve ball.
Not unusual for any engine to burn some oil.
The manufacturers will tell you that 1 quart between changes is possible and not unusual.
Reality is that most do not burn nearly that much.
Even so, to burn a quart between oil changes is no big deal.
Even if you pay full price for synthetic oil - only about $7.
