Default Unknown engine/fuel issue

I am experiencing a problem with my 2007 Ford F-150, V-6 4.2L 2wd. My engine has no power, can barely get it to 50mph, it occasionally backfires, some days more often, high gas consumption and a strong fuel smell from exhaust. No one seems to be able to figure it out and was wondering if anyone else has/is experiencing this problem. I have changed the 2 rear O2 sensors (can't get front ones off) replaced air filter, EGR valve and gave it a tune-up. Still same problem. Any suggestions or help?

Default You need autozone to give you all the codes

Write them all down . Google them and post .You are going to war without a rifle .

My alternator went out on me and once I replaced it my truck started running a lot better. It took about a day of it running bad after changing it but then after it backfired a bunch of times in a row it started running good. It has almost all it's power back. It still has a little bit of power issues but it is almost running normally again. It has no vacuum leaks as that was checked. I have to reset the check engine light to see if it comes on again to get codes pulled if it does. Thanks y'all for your replies and if anyone has any other things for me to look for or check, let me know. Appreciate it..

Default Alternator can be a common problem on these trucks . It drives electronics nuts .

Aftermarket alt sometimes cause a lot of trouble though ,they prefer OEM . I wish I could be more specific but we have never pinned down the exact cause .

It was messing up bad before I replaced the alternator, as stated in my original post before this one, which the one I replaced was the original. But the new alternator actually made it start running better. Still has some issues but not no way nearly as bad.

Does it have any codes? Almost sounds maybe a bad coil with the backfiring, 1 cylinder gone on a V8 is horrible....couldnt imagine what a V6 would feel like.

I have to go get the codes pulled again. A few months ago, 1 place read it as my O2 sensor and another place just said it was running to lean. So now that it is running a little better I am going to get them done again and go from there. I was thinking of just going to the Ford dealer and have them run it on their machine.

Why not just drive by your local auto zone.. they will plug in for free and pull your DTC's

I just wanted to give an update. The problem I was having was a bad ignition coil. I changed that out after seeing that one of my spark plugs was not firing. Runs like brand new now with so much power. It has power that I forgot it had. Going to my local AutoZone to get plugged in to the machine was giving me all kinds of false codes.
