Default True CAI?

I have been reading on here that folks think our stock air intake is fine since it pulls from the fender area and it would be best to just replace the stock filter with a high flow one. Well I was going to perform the GOTTS upgrade of increasing the intake diameter with a 3'' PVC pipe and noticed this.

I noticed there are a bunch of holes scattered under our intake tube. So we are pulling engine area hot area along with the fender air. I am thinking of getting a sealed after market system now.

Thoughts?

I replaced mine with a high speed, open box, hot air intake (lol)
I honestly don't recall seeing those holes there when I took off the stock intake..

Drain holes. Those darn Ford engineers thought water was worse than hot air.

Just leave the stock unit, there's not enough benefit for an aftermarket system to pay for itself.

They do look machined. But why would some have it and some now? Would it matter that mine is a Lincoln?

Not positive they were all there, but I do remember at least some drain holes the last time I took mine off.

I think it's unlikely that's a custom go-fast mod.

My '05 has the drain holes. I'd bet they all do, just a lot of people haven't noticed. They're not real obvious.

My '07 has them too. Right along the underneath so water that might make it past the fender intake hole can drain back out before it gets into the intake proper.
