Default Exhaust

I have a problem. On my 2006 fx4 5.4 I have an x pipe coming straight out the back on 4 or 5-inch tips. When my brother had the truck at school he put them on there. Now that I have the truck, my parents hate how loud it is. More then likely they are going to make me take them off a put something a little quieter. In the perfect world I hope that they will let me keep the 4-5-inch tips out the back and put a muffler in where the x pipe is. What all do yall recommended? I want something that is aggressive when you hop on the gas but cruising not to loud and also quiet on start up to.

single chamber muffler will allow for exhaust to expand before it hits the tail pipe. I have an 05 with 5.4 and installed a Summit brand single chamber on a stock system. Gives nice rumble. I have a GMC Sonoma with 4.3 which had single in to Y pipe out glass pack. It was loud and raspy. Installed a single chamber single in dual out with 3.5in tips. The truck has a nice low rumble, at idle, the cab is quitter now, but when you get on it, it opens up and sounds great. The muffler is a knock-off flowmaster single camber from Flowsound.
PS, I have been buying the aluminized steel exhaust pipe and mufflers to save cause and then painting system with VHT ceramic paint and doing the curing process. It has worked well. I have more rust on the chrome tip on my F150, then all the rest of the painted exhaust combine.

Why does it bother them? Truck is only gonna be sitting in the driveway for a little bit before you take off. Tell'em to wear ear plugs
I guess in order to know what route to take, you gotta know what equals too loud.

Yeah thats the think. My mom of course wants me to make it stock again. But I am not willing to do that haha. My dad on the other hand wants me to just get a master flow or something like that. Do glass packs help quite it down some? Its not loud at all while ur in the cab because they go out the back but the way i park it is amid right at my house so its real loud. Also another reason they want it off is that i got a speeding ticket in it and the cop said that he heard me and then cut his radar on so the exhaust ****ed me on that one. (also my speedometer is off).

My advice, Youtube search for exhaust systems (mufflers) on the 5.4. Each individual muffler, whether it be packed or chambered, will generally have a unique sound. Then take said video and show it to those who dislike your current set-up. Win - win.
Also, I would get your speedo re calibrated...not an excuse for cops in my area. lol
