This may sound strange at first, but you are one lucky person...to have found the culprit, and get them to pay.
Glad you were able to locate the person. Let's hope that 12 year old learned a lesson.

Yea man X2 on that not hitting the window, or hurting anyone inside. Kids these days don't respect anything, and they need their ***** whoped. I know when I was a kid, I feared my parents and getting a spanking. Today telling parents that if they are seen whoping their children they will get arrested is totally bulls**t! Thats why we have all these thugs now that dont care if they get thrown in jail, hell they treat it as a badge of honor! Whew, venting complete.

Sucks man. I, myself need to get a new fender for the 2nd time in 6 mo. First a deer, now a girl backed into the side of my parked truck... Lucky me, I watched it happen so I could get all of her insurance info. Good call on the police, maybe that will get it into that 12yr old's head that guns are not toys to shoot wherever. Also his actions have consequences... Glad nobody was hurt

IMO that's weak to call the sheriff on some dumb kid. Work it out with his mom and if nothing comes from it then call smokey. We don't do stuff like that around here...it aint right to maybe ruin a kids year or maybe even him wanting to use a gun again in his life. But hey that's how we do stuff around here, it obviously worked out for you. BUT on that note I was driving to work one day and some black kid with dreads (thug attire) was standin out front of the motel 6 with a bb gun and shot it at my truck. I slammed on brakes did a 180 degree slide over the median and ran him down. He was about 15 or so and took off into the woods. Luckily he didn't hit the truck or else his *** was mine. I guess I just contradicted myself but I think those are two fairly different situations with this one being off a major highway and that being in a neighborhood.

a kid with a bb gun unattended is a pretty common thing around here. course its completely different in a neighborhood. and he obviously wasnt just "shooting at the rooftops" im guessing.

You often have to file a police report if you want to be able to turn it into insurance. Otherwise they can claim you didn't take reasonable efforts to protect/recover your property (or property claim in this case) and use it as an excuse to not pay.
Also, as much as I enjoy good ole' fashion mano-a-mano style justice, it's just not worth it these days. I have two friends that have ended up getting charged themselves from delivering a well deserved beatdown. If someone would have seen you going after the thug with your vehicle you could have been hit with a slew of felonies.. and if you did give him a beatdown he'd likely end up owning your truck after the civil case was settled.
Blame the attorneys. They've taken away the ability to settle things like men.

I had a BB gun as a kid.. something about being 11 years old keeps you from making rational decisions about acceptable targets and backdrops. I lost mine after doing target practice on a soda can and accidentally peppering the neighbor's house way down the street as a backdrop.
