Default Truck hit with BB gun (venting)

Just needed to vent. I was coming home from SAM's today with the family in the truck. We decided to take a different route home, through the neighborhoods to save a few minutes on the way. I am driving through one of the neighborhoods, fairly busy street, doing about 35 when all of the sudden, BANG! Something hit my passenger side door very hard and I was almost positive that it was not a rock. No other cars around to have flipped the rock up at me. I continue drive a little bit and then pull over to see where I was hit. Just above my door handle, a nice dent, the size of maybe a BB. I was very upset and swung the car around to the location and looked around for kids or what not. Nothing....I then dial 911 and tell the lady that I was possibly shot with a BB gun on soso street. She said a unit will be on his way.

A young girl walks out one of the homes to check the mail and my wife asks if she knows anyone that owns a BB gun in the area. She says my brother does and that she can get him. Her mom and the younger boy come out and I approach and ask if her son owns a BB gun and if he has been shooting it lately. He admits to shooting the gun across the street at the "roofs". Yeah, right! Anyway, we both talked to the son and let him know that you do not shoot randomly across a busy street. She then says that she will pay for any damage and to go and get an estimate. I said fair enough but unfortunately I have already dialed the police. She said thats fine, we will deal with that then. The cop finally shows up and I explain what happened and that we have settle my part. The cop says ok that is good. He then turns to her and says now we have issues.

They go and head to her home....not sure what will happen to the boy, 12 year old, but looking it up, he was discharging a weapon and could be fined a lot and maybe more....not sure.

Sorry for the long story but i've only owned the truck a week and now I have to get the door maybe repainted and repaired. MY LUCK!!!!! Oh well, could have been worse, my wife or kids could have been hurt and I am grateful for that.

He deserves whatever he gets. Parents do too. I grew up in a home full of guns. Everything from a bb gun to 44 mag or .375 ruger. I never even thought of shooting one across a street. Not to mention the *** whipping I would have received for it.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. May have just prevented a future criminal...who knows. Either way, I'm sure he'll think twice about ....well, the mother took the gun from him but he'll think twice about shooting a gun again.

Here are some pics but the truck is so glossy it was hard for anything to show up on the camera but you get the idea. Looks more like a mirror
