Default Truck does not seem to want to down shift? newer owner

I have had my truck for a couple of months now and when I get into it at a rolling start say 25-35 mph it does not seem to want to downshift to catch the right rpm. Also it is next to impossible to do a burn out. My father had the same 5.4 powertrain and 4wd and could light the tires up in his 2002. Is this something a tuner can help with. I just expected a little more from the 5.4 I was beat from a rolling start by my wifes 2.4 liter pontiac vibe. I do have flowmasters and looking to do a cai or modify the intake.

im unable to spin my tires also.

if im going 25 or 30 and go WOT the truck will slip, sometimes.

some days the truck will slip bad and other days it wont. im pretty sure i have a torque converter lockup issue.

I have a stock '05, 5.4, auto that lights the tires up from a dead stop without brakes. I had 255/70/17 that I had to be light on the gas with or they would squeal. Since i got new tires (265) I haven't tried to roast 'em much. I got a tranny computer update last week that woke it up ALOT. It does hesitate a little more on the downshift between 1 and 2 now, but I don't mind.

i got the cops called a few years ago after a wicked burnout with my '06 scab 4x4 5.4

my '05 is mechanically identical and will not spin the tires at all on pavement.
