Default Transmission fluid temp sensor

Yesterday I drove 9 hours to pick up a new mustang to play with and towed it back. Everything was fine while towing and engine and trans temps stayed low. I get home and while idling the overdrive light flashes on for a second. I look at my Gryphon and the TFT is 145. So I go to start it this morning and the TFT reads 383* and the O/D light is flashing. I know the temps is not 383* so it has to just be a sensor. When I rev the truck it goes back to normal temp. What would cause this? How much is a new sensor? and where is the sensor located? I still have a warranty on the truck but don't feel like pulling the gryphon out if it is just an easy sensor to get to and is cheap.

Any help will be great.

It's a crapshhot at best to guess what transmission you have (there are two automatics Ford used with the F150's for 2004 to 2008). I'll assume you have a 5.4...

The TPT (Transmission Fluid Temperature) sensor is located on the lead frame assembly near the shift solenoids on the main control valve body. You'll have to drop the pan to get to it.

If you have true readings that high, then you should be storing a trouble code of P1783.

I'd crawl under the truck and check all electrical connectors that plug into the automatic transmission first. There are several; for speed sensors (one measures the torque converter speed, one measures the tail shaft speed), to detect gear selection, and for the TFT sensor.

Once it dries up outside I'll get under there and check. It has continued to do it but only when the truck is stopped and idleing. While driving it reads normal temp around 140*.

BTW the code is P0712. I'll check the wiring tomorrow.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong? Mine is doing the same thing and I'm getting P0712 on my Edge Programmer.

P0712 is "Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input"

to me this sounds like it is some kind of wiring or the fluid is low.

did you check the dipstick and see what the fluid looks like?

Yes fluid is good. I pulled the connection apart and there was tranny fluid in the connector...Im in the military and stationed in Italy and can not find a place to buy the sensor. Does any one know the part numbers for the sensor?

Default 1995 f150

Hey guys I just recently had my transmission rebuilt and when I hooked everything back up it is coding weird. The overdrive light is flashing, it's coding trans oil temp sensor, manual lever position sensor, transmission solenoid (1 circuit failure), converter clutch solenoid, coast clutch solenoid circuit failure, and electronic pressure control circuit failure. What are some steps I need to take to sort this out?
