Default Trans temp gauge in pillar, or other option?

I would like to add a transmission temperature gauge to my 04, 5.4, 4x4.

Get an Edge Evo. It can display 4 functions of your choice.
I watch the engine temp, Instant MPG, trans temp and voltage.
There are many other functions available.
Install takes all of 5 minutes.
Mounts in a pod on the left side of your dash.
Watch for a used one here, Ebay, Craigs List.

^This is a great way to look at trans temp if that's all you're worried about.

If you wanted to do the actual gauge though, the Trans temp is probably the simplest gauge to install. I would also suggest adding an oil pressure gauge. The dash gauge is essentially just an idiot light and oil pressure is crucial for keeping a 5.4 on the road.

I put mine in a dual pod that's mounted to my A-pillar. If I had to do it over, I would've used the pod that sits on top of the dash in the center as I rarley use that space for anything.

My vote is use the Torque app on an Android head unit. Then you also get the benefit of an Android HU to do SOOOOOO many other things!

Edit: Or the less exciting, less expensive, and simpler option of Torque app on your android phone if you have one.

I agree with the edge evolution route. I picked mine up with the dash pod on eBay for about 200 bucks. You also get the benefit of having a code reader

I third the Edge or comperable tuner that displays engine vitals as a bonus to providing tunes.

I started typing this, then searched, didn’t realize I inadvertently posted it.

Thank you for the replies. The vent gauge pod looks great, I am leaning towards that on the far drivers side vent. I found this thread showing where to screw in the sensor.

Edge Evolution would be another route, but 3X the cost. Do the tunes help much? Oil pressure would be nice.
