Tranny Dipstick

Tranny Dipstick
I was checking my fluids on my truck today and I went to start the truck and check the fluid on the tranny. Is it normal for the tranny dip stick to be dry when the tranny is cold??? Now it did show a level in the cold marking after I let it warm up for 15 min! Just wondering if I have to add some fluid. I have not seen any stains in my driveway indicating a leak.
Thanks Guys,
Jacob

On my 2004 5.4 it shows up a littlle past the cold line when my truck is cold and if it doesn't go all the way up to where it should be for warm after 15 minutes I'd say u need to add some transmission fluid.

Well I just hit 105000! But it was serviced about 7000 miles ago! I think im still good as far as service goes! I was curious about the fluid since Im not familiar with the ford tranny! Guess I'll put a quart in it first thing in the morning!

i hate to say this, but read the owners manual! first thing. then if its low go ahead and add whatever the truck needs. im not exactly sure about the capacity on the tranny but i would check the manual.

There should be a reading on the stick, even when cold. Add fluid after temp reaches normal (use engine temp as a guide).
If your automatic transmission stick is dry, even at cold, your are too low. This can cause high transmission temps, which can lead to transmission failure.
Check it often; once a week.
