Tranny dip stick
I was doing my usual under hood check and found my transmission dipstick floppy. Looked farther down and i can see it broke at the elbow of it. But i cant see where it connects to the transmission. Cant find any diagrams or anyone that has run into this before for installing a new one. Ideas on how its mounted and where?

There is a bolt on the bell housing/block that holds it. The tube is long and curved and has an o ring on one end that goes into the top of the trans on pass side. Its a bitch to snake around if you have headers.

The bolt can be tricky to find at first. It's a big one (18mm I think), and it's just below the valve cover. If you were to take out the inner fender well, it would be right in your face.

Super easy to remove if you just take off the splash guard. I would highly recommend you do that. There's bound to be a ton of dirt and grass stuck up behind it you could wash out anyway.

I got to mine with the splash guard in. I would look at dropping the pan if you are concerned about dirt n **** getting in there. You could even use a clean pail to reclaim the fluid and run through a coffee filter to get the big crap out, but if there is contam in there I would use new.

I would at least change the fluid, especially if you do not know when it was done last. You can drain, change filter, and refill, or do a full flush which will need more fluid and more work. You basically fill a pail with new fluid drop in a hose and hook it to the inlet side, and then another pail on the outlet side and pull new fluid until new comes out the outlet.
I believe a simple pan and filter drop needs 12 quarts, and a full flush needs double that? Not sure.
Needs to be Mercon v. No Type F or anything that claims it is compatible with Mercon V. The bottle should say Mercon V on it.
Here are the ones I would look at/use in no special order:
Personally I use the Valvoline or Castrol.

I don't think the stock pan has a plug on it, but I could be wrong. If not, you will want a big pan to lay under the trans and then loosen the bolts up and let it drain. Have rags/kitty litter handy. I usually keep the huge boxes I get things in for projects like this. It really isn't difficult, its more dirty/oily than anything else. If you chose to do it, do not overnighten the pan bolts. If you do, it will warp and cause the pan to leak in some spots. IIRC the specs are like 11ft pounds for the pan bolts, otherwise snug-tight with a nut driver would be enough, tighten in a criss cross pattern.
