Default Trailer Plug Replacement

Hi Everyone,
I tried to search to see if this was answered but could not find it.
I have an 04 F150 4X4 and the trailer light plug corroded out (4 pin flat). Doesn't look like it saw a lot of use, but that damn little protector does not seem to like to stay on.

So I am wondering what is the best way to replace it, Ford has some crazy price of 85.00 and I think that is for the whole assembly ( I assume with the portion of the wire harness and the other adapter)

Is there a way to replace the flat pin one that is there? Should I replace the whole thing? Would prefer to keep the soldering to a minimum

Suggestions would be appreciated

Head to WalMart or Pepboys, and buy the plug there (comes with 4 blank wires), along with 4 red crips and a crimping tool (if you don't have one).

You'll still be ahead by at least $75.00!

Thanks, Can you still fit it in the original place, or so you just "repin" the original one?

The replacements that Bucko is refering to will not engage into the little bracket, it will have to dangle. They come is a set, so if the replacement wont engage the trailer replace it to. If it does fit the trailer, use the remaining portion to cover the dangling plug.

Another option is to head out to your local junk yard. Remove a "stock" one....although I did not crawl under my STX yet to see if this trailer plug has a "male/female" type connector that plugs into the parking/brake light harness of the taillight assemblies. Logic has me assumimg this is the case for Ford, so it should be an easy task to just lay under a wrecked 2004 to 2008 Ford F150 and remove this stock trailer plug and install onto yours.

I'm kind of partial to the stock configuration whenever it's possible, meaning price effective when I can remove one from a wrecked donor.

If you don't have access to a junk yard with late model Ford trucks (I think every model has this trailer plug on them), then my first suggestion will be cheaper than what the Ford parts guy wants for a new one. Ouch!
