Pull from the rear of the truck when possible and use the hitch if you have it. You can use a bumper mounted ball if necessary. Your truck is better designed to exert force going forward and this way if the strap does snap then the recoil will hit your rear bumper or tailgate instead of your grill, radiator, etc. Just use common sense, try not to jerk when you don't have to and expect that the other person will be a moron, forget to hit the brakes and do their best to slide into you after you pull them free.

i disagree.
if you are tugging from the front you have the weight of the motor over the wheels rather than an empty box.
i have no scientific proof obviously nor do i care that much but it seems to work better...in most situations.

im my experience you break more stuff pulling in reverse. especially rear axle related stuff. In reverse you are using the opposite side of the gears and this is weaker. ive also seen the most broken axle shafts in reverse
