Default Tow strap questions

Whats the best kind of tow strap to buy? not sure if i should get the metal hooks or the strap loops? i'm only going to use it to do minor things around the house and for another car if i have too.

Never buy one with metal hooks, those are the devil! I use a strap with looped ends, at least a 3", prefer a 4" though. Use a high quality clevis to hook it to your truck.

I've had issues with the hooks too. When I had my Jeep, they would always slip off and then I've had a couple that had the latch on it too and they always broke for me. The looped ones imo are stronger

Looped are better because they are stronger. Also, if the rope breaks and that loop comes soaring back due to the tension that was on the line you are going to get some damage done to something.

I see nothing wrong with the hooks. If they slip off you are doing it wrong I'd imagine...

I have several of both kinds and I prefer the loops. When you need to pull someone out it's easy just to stick the loop end into your hitch receiver and use a hitch pin to hold it in place. Much more secure and easier than the hooks.

Also, most the time you're pulling someone out they don't have any actual tow hooks so it's easier to thread the loops around something on the underbody without damaging something than with the metal hooks.

ive seen more than once where the metal hooks break and the rest of the hook with the strap attached to it came through the back window of the truck. get one with loops, its much safer and they are stronger.

With the clevis, how do you attach the looped strap? Do you run one end through the loop and then the clevis?

Should you pull things with the front of your truck or the back? I have an aftermarket bumper. Is that an issue?

That's exactly why I would never buy a strap with hooks, one of those things breaks and it can kill you (I've seen pictures of such an event, not pretty). At least if a clevice breaks it isn't attached to the strap, and good ones I haven't seen break.
