Default Tow Hook rating?

My question is are the 04-08 4wd front tow hooks better/worse/same # rating as the 97-03 4wd? I ask cause my brother removed his off his 97 and they are a thick solid metal mold and look way stronger than my 04 U bar welded to plate metal syle. Both the 97 and 04s are interchangeable with each other. Just wanted to know which one if either was better?

I think you'd find another weak link before you broke a tow hook.

The closed loop tow hooks on our trucks are far stronger than any previous generation tow hook, period. Ford SuperDuty helped pioneer these tow hooks.

Partially. Is there a lb rating for the front tow hooks? I've searched and could only find opinions and its not in my owners manual.

I think the hook is rated for anything much stronger than they will be pulling. I would imagine somthing else will break before they ever do

You will rip them off of the frame or start bending the frame first. So if you want a number start by checking the strength of the 1/8in frame.

The info i wanted was really based on the hook being mounted. I didnt mean the rating of the hook itself unmounted. I know the jeep wrangler hooks are rated for 10000 lbs (mounted of course). The rule of thumb on using them for recovery is at least 2 X the vehicle weight rating. And since the 97 hook looked stronger i was gonna swap it because i know the 04 frame is stro ger. Was just curious.
