Knock on wood I have not had one single issue with any of my 3 F150 transmissions. First two were 4R70Ws in a 95 and 03. My 08 runs like brand new with 145k. I've just never towed anything that heavy for that distance. I'm sure it'll be fine.

You only hear about the bad ones.

That's true. No one ever starts a thread titled "my transmission has 200k on it with no issues".

I have 171,000 (give or take a few) on a 2005 4.6 with an automatic. just had the transmission fluid changed by a shop. I figured it was time :S

but yeah no issues here at all, and I've hauled cars and RTA Cabinets... plus tools

I've got 207k on mine with over 60k supercharged.. No issues..
Trans still shifts and drives mint, all I do is drain and fill it with a drain plug every 10-30k miles with castrol Transmax merc V.. This same stock Trans and converter is also bolted to my now new supercharged engine with 13k trouble free miles.. Believe me, this truck gets worked hard nearly everyday, plus there's usually always about 300-500 lbs of tools and stock on board every day..
Moral of this story... Add a drain plug, watch your Trans temps, and change your fluid and filter.

I'm prepping to get another one ready on the sidelines this winter (never selling my beloved F150) probably going to build it up a bit..

OP, stay on top of that monster transmission, I've heard mixed reviews.. Enough to spook me away from them and build my own.

Trans temps are the killer. my 07 XL with a 4" lift on 35's had 131k and it took a giant crap on me, spent about 3,000 on a built transmission, external trans cooler, bypassed trans temp controller and slapped an edge evolution on her so I can monitor trans temps. 30k miles later zero issues and still had bright red fluid. Highest it has gotten is 207 and that is hammering it on the freeway at over 100mph for an extended time. God bless Texas.

Just curious as many still prefer not to do so.
If so, at what mileage?
Thanks
Yeah I had the pan dropped, fluid and filter changed at 70k and again at 140k. Both times the fluid was nice and clean.

so heres a follow up. Transmission has been absolutely great since the rebuild. BUT.....

I have now done some damage. So today i was pulling my 18 foot open trailer with half loaded with white rock and the back half with a mini-skid steer. I figure about 7K-ish in total weight.... Backing down about a 30 degree decline in a job site the trailer pulls my truck down the hill. Now I locked up the breaks and was able to control the 15-25 foot slide. BUT now theres a major racket coming from the transfer case. The wheel hub assemblies both went bad and somehow the right side brake caliper froze permanently.... $H&%%#@$@#$@@@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so today was a bad day too...

Well the wheel hubs are a simple fix, the sticking brake seems like a small issue, maybe just some brake dust build up or maybe some air in the line. As for the transfer case, that is not my area of expertise. Glad to know your okay though that's the important un-replaceable part.

I have 141K on my 05 4x2 and am getting ready to pull the trigger on a new Jasper Trans. I don't seem to have third gear when I am under load. The Tach stays between 3K and 3500 at speeds between 65-80mph. I can either do one of those speeds or below 60 on highway for it to stay in the 2k range. I have tried different things like taking my foot out of it or just cruising, but it seems to jump up when it feels like it and hang there. Truth be known, I haven't dropped the fluid in it, but there seem to be two sides to it. It can either hurt or help. I am keeping the truck so I feel the new trans is worth it especially since i want to pull weight like a small trailer or camper.
