Dumb question, perhaps, but what winter tire options are out there for a 2006 F150 XL 2WD with stock 235/70-R17's? Bear in mind that I'm a traditionalist who has no desire to go big, but would be fine going to a smaller 16" wheel if they fit and tire diameter remains very close to the OE size and the brakes clear.

For winter snow travel, it's always best with a 2WD truck to use the narrowest tire that's practical so it cuts trough the snow and finds traction rather than floating on top like a giant snowmobile.

We don't have much money, so if I can find something 6-lug on Craigslist for short money, that's what we'd like to do. Suggestions?

What is the backspace & bolt pattern for a factory 20" wheel on a 2004 FX4 4WD Scab ? Also, what is the width (8.5, 9.5)? I want to get some 33x12.5 Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain tires on my factory 20", what backspace would you suggest. I seen earlier in the thread that it was recommended to us a backspace between 4.5-5.5 but I was wondering if anyone could narrow that recommendation for a Toyo Mud Tire.

I havent heard anyone bring this up through all the forums that I have read. Input greatly appreciated.

05 2wd SCREW, leveled out with 3" in front and 1" in back.
want to get biggest tire that will fit 18" OEM wheel.
Feel confident that 285/65/18 will fit and that 275/70/18 will fit.
I want to know if you guys think that I could go with the 285/75/18 Toyo AT tire? (Not concerned so much about the wheel width, as the specs indicate that it will fit 7.5-9.0") My main concern is whether these will actually rub or fit in the wheel well?

More than likely, you can't go smaller, typically, with the larger wheel size means they went larger because of a larger diameter brake system.. Rotor and Caliper clearence would be the reason.

Does the quote above apply to my situation, and can I run 33s without rubbing or leveling? Would 275/55-20 work?

And what is the offset I need for 20" x 8.5" wheels? (I don't mind the wheels sticking out an inch or so)
Repost.

Please comment on tire selection. Both size (any issues?) and brand.

Vehicle: 2004 F150 XLT 5.4L ExtCab 2wd
I am about to buy 20" x 8.5" wheels with 35mm offset (Speedy Wheels Warrior)

275/55-20 (32" x 11") Nitto Dura Grappler or Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza

I recently installed Nokian Vativas 10 ply in a 275 70 18 on my 2006 f150 4x4. Shop now says they are too much tire for the truck (being the 10 ply) and only being on a 1/2 ton not enought weight there to distribute the load of the tire therefore they can not get the vibration out since installing. They have tried 2 times to re balance. Any else running 10 ply.. what brand.. any vibrations?

Have you tried having them balanced on a Hunter Road Force machine? If not, I think you'd be wise to try before giving up. Google the term "Hunter Road Force" and you find their site. From their website you can locate a sho[ nearest you that has their machine.

Hey guys...
1. You cannot go to a 16" rim, as the brakes will interfere.
2. If you are looking to put a bigger tire on, just buy the leveling kit! I would recommend the AS 2.5" kit on ebay (AS=Auto Springs). If you go on f150online.com, there is a full write up on installation, which is pretty simple, took me just over 2 hours going at a very leisure pace. You will not find another exterior mod this good for under $100.
3. If you have a 4x4 SCAB, (mine is 06), go for the 2.5" kit, then you can get 285x75x17 on your stock rims, they fill the well nicely and do not rub. I got Toyo MT and they are amazing!

Hope this helps...

Can I run 35" tires on a '08 King Ranch with stock 20" wheels if I get a 2.5" leveling kit?

I can hear the 35x12.5x20 Nitto Trail Grapplers callin' my name, if they'll fit without rubbin' on my stock wheels and a 2.5" leveling kit.

I have a 2006 FX4 4WD Supercab with stock 20" wheels. I want to get some aftermarket 20" wheels. If I get some 33x12.5 Toyo Mud Tires, what backspace would you recommend for the aftermarket 20" wheels?
