IMO i don't like how that takes away from the glossy look..kinda reminds me of 22" flat black rims...what's the point?

i guess the point is to add a little detail to the truck. i actually wanted the glossy look but as i began applying the clear coats it didn't nearly look as good as the flat finish imo.

My lights look very similar to yours but I have tint film over my lights. I think I am going to take my tint off and spay on night shades. I want them pretty dark. Anyone have any recomendations on how many coats to do?

i did about 3 on mine. if you want them really dark you're probably looking at about 6 coats. you should definitely cover up the white reverse part on your lights, i think they look much better. someone people just spray the entire lights.

did you sand your tail lights before painting them? Anyone that's done this sanded them before do they think that is better or is it better to just clean and paint them?

Sand them and do it right, heck even use a scotch brite pad if you don't got paper, will take you roughly 60 seconds. I don't think the flat finish matches with the gloss clearcoat from the factory which I why I clearcoated mine and wetsanded em to get em glossy. I think you should consider that approach it's not too late

did you sand them prior to spraying them with the nite shading or did you sand them after you applied the nite shading then apply the clear coat? i didn't sand either way, but as i was told i didn't need to sand the lights just degrease them, but it might have helped if i sanded them. when i applied the clear coat it made the lights look liek sh*t! fyi to anyone who's going to do this mod, when spraying anything try to hang it up so the can won't drip or spit on to the item you're spraying as it did this to my lights numerous time which really pissed me off.

I sanded mine with 320, wax n grease remover, nightshade coats, wax n grease remover, sanded with 600, clear coats, wet sand 1500 then 2000 then polish. This is how they turned out on my old ranger:

On those F150 tails I had them clear coated at the body shop to see the results compared to my own job out of a can, it was a little more glossy but definitely achievable if I spent more time on them. So if you feel like you really screwed up the tails and can't get the rattle can to meet your needs just scuff em up and tell your body shop to hit it with some clear.
