Default Throttle Sensor Issues

Vehicle: 2005 F-150 Crew Cab, V-8, 5.4 L

So my truck died on me going down a grade. I was able to restart the truck and it has been running fine. But after talking to a friend, he said it sounded like the Throttle Position Sensor because of the truck dying and the surging I had been feeling at stop signs and lights.

Got a new sensor and installed it. The truck will start but will not run. It turns over and dies. Figured it was one of those “factory part” type deals. Put the old sensor back in and it starts right up. No problems. I have put 100 miles on it since then too. No problems. Returned the part and got the Motorcraft part. Attempted to put the motorcraft part in today and same problem with the other new part. I put the old part back in and it fires right up. I checked the forum on anything like this with no luck.

Is there something I am missing? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Try clearing any error codes after installing the new TPS, just a thought.

Check your fuel pump driver module above your spare tire

Check the pin connections on the tps harness and pigtail, the new ones your are getting might be different in terms of pins.. There are a few different versions..

Sounds like it's just a dirty throttle body problem to me.. Possibly a low idle to boot..

Clean the TB and MAF and see what happens.

If stalling continues pull the VCT solenoids and update them to the latest part number, or clean them if the screens are dirty..

If stop light stalling still persists, and you are noticing a low 500-550 rpm idle, raise the idle with a tuner.. Or get a custom tune.
