Thinking about trading my truck

Since he's going with a newer model I'd say there is a lot better chance it has been taken care of. The majority of people who pay 40k for a truck aren't going to rag it out. I agree that some have been abused, and, as such, thorough inspection is important, and if you can tell it's been abused run the other way.

I agree w/ most of the posts on here. I wouldn't buy a used truck unless I knew the previous owner. I have used and abused my truck, harder than I should have, but most cant tell from looking at her cuz I keep up with maintenance. Some owners might not, yet still use and abuse.
Personally, I think you should swap out that crappy factory diff. I put in an Auburn Auto-Cross and was able to get out of texas clay w/ just my Street tires (directions). Now w/ my MT Baja ATZ's, I pull my uncles 350 out when he gets that heavy diesel stuck w/ ease (although I have to clean the front of his truck after flingin dirt all over it, hahaha).
Great Locker + Great Tires = Great times out in the dirt!
JMHO.

I searched the net 'til I found the right one. One-owner, serviced at the dealership, 69K miles, all service records, King Ranch. Good time to deal right now given the economy, too. Good luck, man.

Thanks man, and go noles! I think most of the kids and people who abuse there truck still have them unless they have traded it in for a new one, if he has one there ill take my chances. Im praying he will, and if he does, for my dad to go for it as well. And if he doesnt have one, we have an 04 FX4 with leather, 45k miles or so, 4x4 engaged maybe 3 times, it was my grandpas truck. So, if he doesnt have one, ill beg my dad to trade with me.

Why are you looking at trading it in? Just because its 2wd?

My credit union wont even approve a loan for a used vehicle until it has been taken to their preferred mechanic for an inspection. My cu does this for free Im pretty sure most dont, it may cost a bit but everyone should take a used vehicle to be inspected by an independent mechanic not affiliated with the dealership, it could save you big $ down the road.

Well, i took it in today. No real good news, but no real bad news either. The manager i knew was in and out of meetings all day, so the salesman i talked to is going to sit with him soon and see what they can get going. They want to keep all the mods on have on their, and i found a truck i really liked, but im kinda worried it wont be able to happen. But you never know what can happen!
