unfortunately the same thing happened to my truck..except they didnt knock the cylinder out..only sutck a screw driver under and popped the door handle up...my factory alarm never went off..i know because i was at home..they stole my sprinfield 1911...needless to say i was pissed...but long story short jimmijammers or not if they wanna get in they will...instead of spending the money on the jimmijammers i opted to get an aftermarket alarm system..viper 5901..its has a pager that pages me if alarm is activated and i can also set it to a silent alarm mode where it only pages me..range up to a mile away..so now i keep a lil 40 in my pocket and 12ga at the house...needless to say the next mf to try get in my truck is gonna get alot more than what they wanted to get out of it..cause here in mississippi when have castle law...you can protect your property by any means!!!!!

Some lowlife would have to even have the brains to think that the keys are in the truck. That is the advantage of having tha key pad that you can go to the pool w/o your keys in your pocket.

So if you leave your key locked in the truck, just an added bonus for the pro thief. A bigger bonus if your house key is there, he could make a copy w/o you knowing it.
And of course, the pros get an education online. Now he has a damn good idea that vehicles with keypads are likely to have the keys in the car.

I see where you are going with this but what happens if your key fob or the pad stop working? You may say "What's the chance of that happening?' I say that it is good. It happened to my wifes 08 Expedition. neithe r the key pad or remote worked. The key pad and her remote entry are tied into the same controller. She normally locks her keys in her truck. Thank God she didn't that one day. They had to replace the controller- you know circuit boards. They are reliable until. If someone wants into your truck the lack of a keyhole will not deter them. My father was a city police officer for 35 years. Thje best way to deter theft is to keep your belongings out of sight. I still see people's empty cars with navigation devices and ipods stuck to the windshield. It doesn't take long to break a window.[/quote]
I've had my truck broken into twice, in broad daylight. The second time I removed the linkage and cylinder and plugged the key hole with a zinc button that home depot sells (sprayed it flat black). At the rate its going I figured my chances of the key pad failing are less than the chances of my car being broken into, besides AAA will open my dooor but not replace my door handle.
