is there a gap between the oild pump and the engain block in m1998 ford triton v8 5.4l 8m have the old pump removed and want to make sure that the oil pump is not to mate up to the other surface ... is threre a gap between the too parts

There is absolutely no gap on the 2004-2008
You are on the wrong forum for a 98 .
Our pumps must be moved around until they are comfortably seated flush with the block . If you tighten bolts with a gap pump will break .
I would think yours the same .

This is where I learned the 'ole wives tale' about the backing plate on modular block engine oil pumps 'flexing' and loosing oil pressure -- IS BS. The backing plate on the oil pump fits flat against machined flat surface of the front of the block. As @redfishtd correctly notes, if the 'gearator' splines are not properly engaged before you tighten the bolts, this is what happens.
DON'T even ask how I know. But it is the same method I seem to have employed in about everything that I know. But I haven't tried this on a 1998 model, just an '04.
