Default Done.....

Thanks everybody for your help on this. Pulled the actuator out Monday night, picked it up at the Ford dealership Tue. ($35) And installed it last night. It took me about a half hour to get it out and about an hour to install. I could not get it to set into the splines. I finally turned the key on and ran the heat up and down until it was at the arrow then shut the key off and then it dropped right in.
You were right about the screws and turning only a 1/8 of a turn at a time. I think that took more time than anything else.
Thanks again everyone.

I have heat......
Now that the temps are warming up.

I gotta fix mine one of these days. I have either HOT HOT or FREEZING COLD and now that it is a little warmer it really sucks.

Someone had a write up on how to remove the dash. I think I can do this by removing the glove box and the part below the pass airbag. Seems like it would help.

Is there a way to troubleshoot the blend door actuator?

Look at the post by jeffreyreeve on page two of this thread. He explains how to access it, and it is spot on. Fairly easy job once you get the radio out.

If the blend door activator was bad.. would it suck the A/C past the heater core instead of the evaporator?

Any help appreciated..
Mine does also, but that is at a stop or low speeds. It has to do with the airflow across the condenser. Attribute that to Ford's design, inadequate.
Old thread, but had to add my gripe about the a/c too. And that my temp control has 2 heat settings on the temp control dial. Hot and cold.

I wonder if this all has to do with a vacuum line failure for me. The floor vents don't seem to open much. I can tell about the heat being hot and cold via my defroster setting and the vents.

The radio has to be removed and the glovebox needs to be opened all the way to get access to the 3 bolts. After removing the actuator I ran the truck after warming it up. I tried to test the actuator by moving temp control from cold to hot. The motor would only move like an 1/8" so I decided to dissassemble the actuator motor and look inside. I did notice that there is an arrow on the case that points to the splined shaft. I was able to take my actuator motor apart and realigned the splined shaft. The shaft has a flat spot that I lined up the arrow to....I was really unsure if I was fixing it or not. After putting it back together the heater temp control seems to be working flawlessly. But, always a but...There is a ticking sound that is still coming from the actuator motor. I dont know why its doin that...but the hot and cold is working so I am not complaining. Just wanted to share my experience.
I pulled my acutuator out yesterday. I left it connected. Question to you: Should the spindle on the actuator spin when adjusting the temp control? Mine did not.

This is my problem. The floor vents do NOT blow cold or hot air.

I did what you did and mine did not move either. When I connected the new one it did turn, but not as fast and as much as I expected.
It took a few seconds to do it also.

Yes, mine don't blow any air! Fan just makes a heck of a noise when I have the controls on heat (manual controls) and the fan on high. Makes no difference what the temp setting is. I will have to look into the heater controls. Actually, spring/summer might be a good time to do this work. Warmer outside in the north (with this winter being a great big exception) and then it is ready for next season. Good luck Moto, post your findings. I will look for yours, and I will post if I find out also. Just seems like too much all at once!
