I get the lockout concept...
But if you're going into the engine and having to replace everything anyways.... why sling another 400-600 dollars on something that restricts the way the truck was originally intended to operate. Updated Ford parts and a high volume pump will last until you decide to sell it..
Then again, that's just my opinion.

i don't disagree but with limited funds right now and the ability to lock them out without removing the front half of the motor is appealing.

Sorry to hear about your truck, one of my favorites on the site.

Hope you get this up and running soon.

Lockouts will give you 1) less power 2) less economy 3) not fix the cause of your issue, which are blown out tensioner seals. This means your cams will continue to be starved for oil, and the money spent on lockouts may as well be burned.

Some guys will tell us they've put all new phasers and timing components on the vehicle but it only buys them some time and eventually returns. So locking them out while you're in there is cheap insurance to make sure you'll permanently eliminate those cam phaser issues. Usually once you get the phaser issues taken care of and the old 2 piece spark plugs replaced with the improved design plugs, these engines are pretty solid from there. Feel free to give us a call, PM / email if you'd like to get a kit on order or to discuss this further. My name is Anthony and my direct line here is 313-561-5500 extension 103.

I was wandering when the lockout mis-iformation "train" would be by. 1.) "No problem, happy to help out!" (with suggestions and ph # where you can call & spend your $700 bucks.) ... 2.) "So locking them out while you're in there is cheap insurance to make sure you'll permanently eliminate those cam phaser issues." ( jambing the phaser so it can't work eliminates phaser issues... ( NO IT DON'T. It only keeps phasers from EVER working properly again. It does NOT address issues which evidence themselves in the phasers not working properly. ie: worn/stretched timing chains, broken chain guides, tensioner seals, and oil flow problems - frequently resulting from one or more of the previously mentioned things clogging oil pump pickp screen.

And monitoring VVT cam operation will confirm that - in a properly working system - some degree of cam retard is being applied in the WIDE MAJORITY of driving conditions. All of which you are defeating with the lockouts.

And there is NO charge for that help.

Thanks for all of the replies.

As soon as the weather permits, I will be pulling the oil pan and valve covers to inspect things more before making a decision

Unfortunately this is not correct. We have been heavily involved in testing the 3V and related failures basically since day 1 of it's existence. While replacing everything will get you back to A1 specs, and everything will be at it's newest, stating that 100% of the phaser issues are from those issues you listed are not correct. How is that possible? well because when you replace all of the items that you have listed, put the steel tensioners on to prevent any chance of seal deformation, and have the issue come back 3-6k miles later, what then? That's right, the engine just doesn't have enough oil pressure to the phaser to control it.

How many shops want to warranty that over and over, and how many owners want to keep dealing with the same problem? It will always come back so long as the phaser system is still in play, it's a matter of when. That is exactly why this kit was released, and patented because it makes you never have the problem ever again.

Also, you quote some claims about power reduction, and loss of fuel economy. Do you, or the person claiming this have dyno sheets showing this? or an EPA drive cycle report substantiating this? Most of our customers can't wait to tell us that their truck has NEVER ran so smoothly, or been as responsive, even when brand new as it is after our system is installed, and we have proven that our lockout kit can actually restore power compared to a failed VCT system.

How you're claiming our solution for $700 is a ripoff when you can easily spend double that (not counting labor) just replacing every part you've listed makes little sense.

That's why you upgrade to a high volume oil pump. Factory pump is garbage.
Even if you lock the phasers, you're still running with a weak oil pump

And even if you lock the phasers, nothing is done to stop the loss of oil to the heads (from the tensioners).
