Default Tanneau cover question.

I'm going to sell my "ARE" fiberglass cover. Should I keep the "rails"? I've seen people talk about purchasing "rails" for thier tops. I am wanting to get a foldable top. Will I need my "rails" or need different ones. If so then I would sell mine with the top. Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by rails. If you're talking about the plastic factory bed rails yes, yes keep them as they'll work with any tonneau cover.

I was assuming the rails were the metal rails that the hinges attach too. But I guess everyone was talking about the plastic piece on top of the bed that the metal attaches too.

Mine came with new rails (on sides and one in front of the bed) when I purchased it new. If you buy a used one, you need to get those.

This is hurting my brain.
The plastic bedrails don't come off.
The metal rails, new or used, are attached to the cover, and go wherever the tonneau cover goes.

Yes I found this out today. I never had a hard cover before. And this was already installed on truck when I got it. So I was unsure of how to take it off. I have someone coming tonight to buy it. I'm then going to order the "gator top" I believe it's called. For $259. That suites my needs much better. Thanks

Glad you got it figured out.
I love the look of a hard top, but it just never worked for me neither. I now have a Truxedo roll up cover, and am happy with it, but I really miss my fold up cover. Not sure if yours has the option, but the ability to fold the first section back from the cab, was kind of handy as well.

It was nice looking, but I have not installed my leveling kit yet. And the top made it a bear to see anything back there while backing up. Plus I have had the truck for a couple weeks now and there were a few times I needed it to haul stuff, and couldn't because the top was in the way. Now that its off I can see a little better. Im sure once the leveling kit is in I will be able to see more. The cover Im looking at is the folding type.
