I've got a 2006 f150, the tailgate make this loud banging sound, like a gun whenever I put it back up. there is a rod running lengthwise i'm assuming is the tailgate assist. anyonbe know how to remove this rod and left side bushing. seems that's where it binding. never seen this before on a tailgate

There is a torsion bar inside the gate to make closing it easier. Yours may have come loose or broke. Time to take it apart and see what the story is.

I see the torsion bar in there and from what I see that's the problem, only thing I can't figure out how to get it out. It's only connected on the right side. Looks like there is some plastic piece on the end, but there is nothing in my manual on how to remove or replace the torsion bar

mine did the same thing, took it off and found out it was the bottom left hinge point, the plastic cover cracked and was binding, took the cover off and the noise went away and havent herd it since
