Is this supposed to have a gasket?
2004 f150 lariat 5.4 150,000 miles. It has a fuel smell in cab with th heat or air on, replaced all plugs, retorqued my self then had ship double check but still a smell. Took the fuel pressure regulator of the rail, it was metal to metal with a bunch of gritty balck specks in between to my suprised no gasket, 2 small o-rings were not pinched and seated correctly. I can't help but think there should be some sort of a gasket in between the flat surface of the rail and the flat surface of the regualtor...any thoughts?

Did it look like this? I'm not familiar but it appears this has just a couple O-rings. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...422751&jsn=452

O- rings are a good gasket , another flat gasket would stop the from compressing .
If you suspect them change them .
Fuel injectors are all o-ring seated . oil them a little when inserting .Another place you could get a fuel smell from . Your fuel line comes to one fuel rail and has a release fitting ,there has been a weld failure there on the fuel rail reported .
Oring should be proud so they can compress .

Proper O-rings are the best gasket
Replace them . Injectors are all o-rings sealed-- another place to check . If many miles replace all injectors . Oil o-rings for proper installation .
