Yep, definitely aftermarket. Just be glad the previous owner did you a favor and added keyless entry.

I would just unsnap the part on the door where the button should be and look to see if there is a connector back there. Worth a shot.
Not the case with early STX's. Ford did not pre-wire the doors for power locks, power windows, or power mirrors in the early year model STX. It was a 'sporty model", with no power frills.

I've had two of these, a 2004 and my current 2007. The 2007 uses a 'plug' at the front door jamb/rubber tube for the wiring connections for the door speakers; nothing else, which made running power leads for the aftermarket door locks and power windows a longer project (I drilled a small hole in the door lamb along with a rubber grommet to protect the wiring, then punched a hole in the rubber tubing to get the wiring into the door). The 2004's rubber tube was completely hollow, which made running power leads easier to the inner door.

Sure, you could wire in a button to unlock the doors, anything is possible. Is it worth the effort when you already have a fob to unlock?

Back of the fob should have some info. If not, look up under your dash for the unit. Most likely under the steering column.

At worst, you can buy an entire new kit off of eBay for 50 bucks. Your door lock "poppers" and wiring stays intact; you'd only need to change the control box and the two key fobs that come with a new kit. Kits come with wiring, door lock "poppers", bracketry, and the box that is programmed to the two key fobs.
