Stupid Tire Pressure Question

Stupid Tire Pressure Question
OK, I was reading the max pressure on my tires day while checking the pressure. These are BFGs AT KOs. The Max pressure is 80psi. My question is, how much air should I be putting in these things. These are brand new tires. They are 285.60.18s

Your gona get every one and there brother to tell you something different. If you do some research you will find I a basing mine on the tire. 1st you have an LT tire thats why the 80psi. Now, radial tires when not properly inflated do not make proper contact in the middle of the tread and this is why you see lots of mini vans and mid size sedans with the inner and out edge worn but the center has plenty of rubber. 2nd you have to determine whats is important, ride quality or tire wear and performance. Ride quality then less air and let the tire wear. Performance (i.e. max payload, heavy towing etc and max tread life are performance) more air. Ford designed the truck to run a P (passenger tire) at 35psi and work with the suspension for a particular ride quality. If you want to get the best from the tire or haul large loads then you follow what the tire make designed the tire to be 80psi. I can tell you from experience 80psi on a F150 front end only when you hang a 7 foot steel plow on the front. 80 psi on the rear hard but can be dealt with. I keep our 2500 suburban at 60-65 front during the summer and kicked it to 75-80 in winter when we had the plow on. The rears I rans around 70 to 75 all year. it helped even the tire wear when rotated. If you not looking to run them that high, I would advise at least 50-55 psi, as these are LTs not P touring tires with a 44psi spec.

tomb1269 is right on target. The tires you are running on should be at least 50psi or even higher. A couple of other reasons you don't want to run below 50psi (especially at 35psi...thats almost like running on a flat)...you are putting a lot of stress on the sidewalls AND you are killing your gas mileage as well.

OK I have them set dead on 50 psi. I just want to get the longest use out of the tires since they cost me my left nut almost. LOL. I also had my mechanic put it up on a lift yesterday to check out the front suspension because I started hearing a knocking sound when I would go over speed bumps. I thought something might have not been tightened up enough when he installed my leveling kit a couple of weeks ago. Its almost like the strut is maxed out with the spacers on there and making that knocking sound when I go over bumps.
