Default stumped

Hello everyone, a few weeks ago on my way to work and truck(04 screw lariat) seemed like it was misfiring. scanned it and got code for ignition coil, a p2196 o2 sensor stuck rich. replaced all cops and plugs (broke all 8) and then was getting just a p0345 for cam position sensor. replaced both cam position sensors, and still get the p0345 and p2196 came back. when i pulled cam position sensors one had metal flakes on it. is that a telltale sign of a bad synchronizer? and could that be throwing off the fuel timing causing the p2196? Thank you in advance for any input.

Do you have the diesel noise and/or timing chain slap?

it always made the diesel noise before once it warmed up and only at idle. was gonna try updated vct solenoids. did here chain slap once or twice before while revving motor after plug change. Only revved it to 3000 sounded good then let it go back to idle, it sputtered and I shut it off. The luck I've had it will probably end up being the tensioner or phasers, something I don't feel comfortable doing. unless I find a good thread or sticky. It's funny how fast you can convince yourself to do something once you see it's a sticky!

Hopefully the metal shavings are just from the timing chain rubbing on the timing cover. It seems like you may need to open up the valve and timing covers to see though. If your phasers and chains have been making noises for a while, then there seems to be a good chance that the phasers are failing to adjust the timing correctly, causing your issues. This is just a guess though, since I haven't heard or looked at your truck. Replacing the timing set isn't a fun job, but you can do it. This is the best thread I've come across:

I don't think I need to tell you that metal shavings in the motor is a bad thing, and should be fixed as soon as possible.
