The CD player is capable of playing discs burned in the mp3 format. "Data disc".

Well I have a single disc, no cassette tape player, non "MP3" radio in my truck but it can also play CD's that had music burned onto them.

You can burn an audio CD in either "audio" mode or "data" mode. Audio mode CDs can be played in every CD player and can hold 80 minutes of music. Data mode CDs can only be played in players that are designed to play MP3s, but can hold (depending on bit rate) roughly 700 minutes of music.

Your disc is burned in the standard music format. Meaning the mp3 files were converted to wav files and then burned to the disc so it could play in any standard cd player. What he is referring to is if a radio is branded MP3 you can burn the actual mp3 file to a disc and the radio will play them. The main advantage to this is that you can put upwards of 150 songs or more in mp3 format on a single disc where as you can only put around 15 or so songs on a standard burned audio disc.

ahhhh youngins.....see, back in the day before ipods and alike, we had to burn music on to discs if we wanted to listen to anything besides the radio or cds bought in a store. and one of those formats was called mp3. before that, we had to get a special cassette with a wire coming out hooking up to our portable cd player. before that, we recorded the radio of our boomboxes with cassetes and made mix tapes. and im only 30, so thats as far back as i go lol. not quite 8 track old enough lol.
