Default Sticking Fuel Gauge

So my truck every winter during random times during the winter my fuel gauge takes forever to show full after filling up. Usually it takes round 5 mins after the fuel gauge finally moves from whatever i had before, today it was a 1/4 tank. Then it takes anywhere from 15-20 mins for the gauge to finally show full. Keep in mind that whole 15-20 mins the needle is slowly moving toward full. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm know help but I had the same problem and I noticed it after I came back from vacation, the truck sat for 4 days almost on E while I was away and I assumed the mechanisms in the tank dried up so when I filled up finally it was hard for it to register there was gas and it slowly crept to full but hasn't happened since so I came to that conclusion. But like I said I'm probably no help lol just sharing my story

There's an in tank sensor (like a float) that sends a ground signal (variable resistor) to the gas guage. My guess is that this sender is bad.

I'm pretty sure to gain access to it, you'll have to drop the tank to remove the center ring, then lift out the fuel guage/fuel pump assembly from the tank.

It would look like this (the black "float" at the bottom of the pic is what floats up/down in relation to the amount of fuel in the tank, sending a high/low ground signal to the fuel gauge which operates the gauges needle):

Yeah my 08 did the same thing last winter. My ford place said there's nothing you can do. It's pretty common they said.

Yeah its pretty common, it happened to me one time when I reset the info while still putting gas in the truck so try and avoid that. Other than that I wouldn't really worry about it if it adjusts because it won't be cheap to fix/repair.

Have you tried to go into test mode on your odometer and reset the gauges? They shake for a sec and then go back to normal,it re calibrates them.

The easiest way to explain is to go to YouTube and type in " your Ford dosent have a tach" and watch the video. Pretty neat actually.the first step of the test mode is recalibrating the guages.
