Default steering noise ?????? On 2004

I have a 2004 with a 5.4, 3 valve that has noisy steering. It moans and groans a little while at idle but more so when driving and making turns. Not sure what maybe the issue. Steering pump or rack?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Ed

Did you check fluid level/condition? Try a fluid flush (or at least a drain/fill), install an inline filter with new Mercon V and perhaps some Lubeguard red. With the lines empty, pop the belt off and spin the pump's pulley to check for smooth turning.

And.. check the steering shaft U-joints for smooth operation.. very common problem.

I took the belt off and the pump spins freely but I didn't remove the fluid. But the pump has play in the shaft when pulling pulley .

I replaced the pump. Seems better didn't drive it long yet. Is there a bleed valve to get air out of the system? Also added a filter in return line

Run the steering wheel back and forth until almost full lock several times to bleed.
