sputtering after changing spark plug

Let me give you a history. Was having trouble with the truck when I bought it. It would jerk on light acceleration and had the local parts store read codes. Misfiring on cylinder 3. Wasn't bad just left it.
Later on truck was sputtering bad on acceleration. Figured out coil pack on 3 went bad. Replaced it and was fine still had the jerk which was fine to me. Drove fine and did it once in a while.

Well today I figured I've got some extra cash I want to spend some time under the hood. Bought one plug (Motorcraft) and wanted to replace cylinder 3 plug. After I was done it started sputtering like when the coil went bad.
Now I know I should of done all plugs and coils but let's be real I don't have that kind of money right now. Figured I'd just replace the plug until I get enough money ($200+) for the job.
Now I keep telling myself the famous quote "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Now I'm kicking myself. So should I just get a new coil pack, new coil and plug or just she'll out the 200+ + labor, that I really don't have.

Tldr;
Change plug on cylinder 3 and sputters worse now.

What Brand COP ? Do you have a DTC again ?

The one I replaced I got from the local parts store it was the cheapest. It was white not black like the others.
No codes now. For some odd reason.

not sure what brand that is... people who buy COPs from part stores, unless they're Motorcraft, generally don't have much luck. Either go with Motorcraft or the super cheap set on Amazon with great reviews (I'm using them... $40 for the set)

Chablo954 04-26-2016 12:26 PM

40 for the set?! I paid 35 for one.

Martian 04-26-2016 12:27 PM

yeeeep. everyone overpays. you just have to be aware that the $40 set is Chinese and of course there could be a dud in the pack, but the chances of that aren't that high. mine have been in there for like three years now

Yea. But i don't understand, what could of caused this. Did I put the spark plug in weird. Did I break the cop? Did I miss something. I'm just asking myself these things. I'm assuming it has to be the plug seeing as its the only thing different.

Martian 04-26-2016 12:32 PM

Neither of those are likely. How many miles?

Chablo954 04-26-2016 12:36 PM

140000. The coil pack has about 2000 on it.

Replace all plugs, coils, boots, and springs
