Smile Small holes in bottom of my 5.4 OEM intake?

I'm adding an aftermarket intake to my 04' 5.4 & noticed on the bottom of my intake there was maybe 10 small drilled holes, ((1/8") in diameter. Are these holes OEM from the factory, & what is there purpose? Seems to me that the holes would suck in "some" hot air from the engine bay, yet it's main sourse of air is from the inside of the driver's side inner fender well. Any help with your knowledge would be appreciated.

I noticed that on my intake last year when I had it off. The only thing I can think of is that they are there for drainage in case water enters the intake system. I doubt they would suck enough hot air from the engine bay to make a difference, at least no more than most aftermarket "cold air" intakes do. lol
