Should I use lucas in my transmission

Im getting ready to change tranny fluid and filter with amsoil and a deeper transmission pan but Im just wondering whats some thoughts about maybe putting in a qt of lucas transmission as well.

If you don't have any trans issues-why? I'd just rather spend the money on synthetic ATF instead of adding another additive.

I've never been a fan of putting any additive in trannys. Additives tend to cover up issues. If it's working fine, no need for anything other than ATF.

Be aware that a transmission pan drop and filter change is not a complete automatic transmission fluid change. It will get you about 5 quarts of fresh fluid, but there will be about 6 or more remaining dirty quarts of fluid (torque converter, valve body).

The deeper pan is good to add another quart (or two?), but again, not a complete change of fluid.

Well, the corollary to that is - it does not help it. So why bother with the extra expense?

Fact is, the factory-spec Motorcraft trans fluid ( Mercon V or Mercon LV ) is already great fluid. No reason for any additives in the first place.

In general, Lucas products are unremarkable and largely unnecessary - Marketing Maskirovka 101 at it's finest. :jester:

Aftermarket additives are a huge profit center - and with only a few notable exceptions (e.g Techron, Stabil, MC XL-3) are total waste of money. Some are even flat harmful.

Maintain yer vehicle properly with exemplary practices, adherence to schedules and quality products, and you'll never need them.

What additives were given to that "one horspower" carrage in the picture?

I too have been weary of additives; most "experts" have said they are good for those who did not change their oils often, so the "additives" did just that; replenished the additives normally found in oils. If you change your fluids using good maintenance schedules, additives get replenished with these changes, and therefore adding an extra bottle does not really help much.

I like this stuff for good fuel cleaning: Techron. However, I use Shell gas, and they have it in their fuels already. If I used the "speedy stop" type gas stations, I'd be likely to dump a bottle into my gas tank every 4th or 5th fuelup.
