Default Should I update my ecu

Hey guys I have a 2004 f150 5.4 xlt 4x4 with 163,500 miles and I bought it used last November (1 year ago) I read that this year model truck runs lean from factory and I read another post that the guy updated/ re flashed his computer due to the throttle body or something in that nature, but that not the point should I just update it to just to have the lates software that ford made for the 04-08 trucks and MAYBE it can give me a tad bit better mpg ( avg 11 miami city) I have no check engine lights nor had any in the last year or any engine related problems. So should I go forth on this and if anyone has experience this what was the outcome? Thanks

there is no ECU up-date that I have heard about... there is a transmission re-flash to correct a lag in shifting ...

I was actually thinking about it if I were going to buy a tuner it's going to re flash the Ecu from factory setting so if there was a update and I get the tuner it's still going to change it so I think I'll just wait for the tuner I guess

The tuner will work whether you reflash your pcm or not. You can also adjust your shifting so you reflashing the trans wouldn't be needed.
If you do get a tuner, then decide to reflash the pcm, put the tuner back to stock first and you'll be fine.
