Default Should I trade?

Hey all, I have an offer from someone who is willing to trade his 04 STX for my 2000 Jeep Wrangler SE. I was just curious what you guys think of this. My Jeep is a 2000 4cyl automatic with about 130000 miles. The truck in question is an 04 single cab 4x4 with 86000 miles on the 4.6. Do you guys think it's a good idea? Would the truck be any more reliable than a 17 year old Jeep in your opinions?

If the truck is in good shape, I’d do that trade personally. The 4.6 is a really reliable engine that’ll easily pass 200k if maintained.

The 4.6 is the reliable v8. It's a bit underpowered though. If you don't mind that, then it should be a great truck, given all the maintenance has been done.

The 4.6 will push that regular cab around just fine. Trust me, coming from a 4.2, the reg cab with that engine felt like a race car to me. Ha.

This guy is also coming from a 4cyl. I doubt the 4.6 will feel slow to him.

YES, and I'm a Jeep guy. SWB (short wheel base) Jeep's hold their value VERY well, but a 4-cyl SE (slow) with auto (very slow with no over-drive) is at the bottom of the barrel. And likely gets WORSE gas mileage than the powerful 4.0L 6 since you have to mash the gas to get it going.

That STX truck probably looks great (regular cab, short boxes look cool), and the color matched bumpers go well.

I'll chime in because I own both, an 04 4.6 and a 98 Wrangler 4 banger. It depends on what you want to use it for and what you like.
A wrangler cannot be beat as a nice weather cruiser and offroad capabilities out of the box. In the summer I drove my Wrangler everyday without rain in the forecast and luckily it didn't rain much.
The F150 has a much better ride and its got a lot more pep. Its nice to have the bed to haul stuff as well.
Now that the weather is cooling down I find myself in my F150 more but the Wrangler still gets love. This is a question only you can answer its completely personal preference and what you need out of your vehicle. Let us know what you end up doing.

Good points.

My thought is that it's a good opportunity to get maybe the most value out of his 4-cyl/automatic Jeep through the trade. In the future he may decide he wants a Jeep and can shop for a 4.0L.
