Think of it this way: If some stranger asked you this same question about a truck you know nothing about, what additional information would you need to make a remotely helpful response? That is the same information we need....

Just depends on what you want. Is the rest of the truck in good shape? If you buy a new one you talking a 40k brand new one? If so look at the numbers. New motor 5k vs 40k. If it does everything you want numbers say keep it. If you just want something new... you only live once.

171K here with a bent rod after my engine hydro locked. Had the same question and decided to replace the engine with a reman from powersource. It wasn’t much of a challenge making the decision. While I wanted a new truck, it’s not financially feasible, and quite honestly I love my 2005 black FX4 Screw. $5500 bucks later I’m back on the road and only need to worry about the inevitable tranny replacement/rebuild in the not so distant future.

Most of the time a timing job and some care and maybe another 15ok . Who says a new one will last any longer . New not always better. 50 k and interest
no thanks .Turbos no thanks .Alum body no thanks . High insurance no thanks .
I would rebuild mine first .

How much money do you have? New engine - $5k. New truck - $ you call it.

My buddy at work just had a his 2002 5.4 2V rebuilt by a very good company here in San Diego. It was San Diego Motor Machine. Been in business for over 50 years. Cost was right around $4100.

I'd say replace the engine, partly because I would do the same.
The new trucks are great in just about every aspect. I don't want a payment though. Nothing wrong with Ecoboost, Escape had almost 160k before a deer decided to hitch a ride. Better safety ratings in the newer trucks than our gen as well.
Seems like we may have a one post ghost, though.
