I put five bags in the truck now just because I have them sitting around. I leave them in the bed all winter since the truck's payload is way more than the Vic's (obviously). Last winter I still had to use 4x4 going up my street. I blame the crappy stock Wrangler SR-A tires for that since I would go up the street fine with the Vic without the weight in the same conditions. Now I have Wrangler AT/S tires but I still have the sand bags in the back just because I have them.
Interesting. I have driven CVs at work for the last 10+ years and they have all been horrible in the snow, no matter the tires or weight in the trunk. Of course, the PD cheaps out and didn't order the LS rear ends. Would love to drive one with a TrueTrac and see how that does. We are getting 2 AWD Explorers next, so those should be great in the winter.

My 05 SCrew 5.4 does great in the snow, even with the open rear diff. It's a pretty heavy truck, though. Haven't had a need for the 4WD yet but hope to test it this winter. I'll likely install a TrueTrac in the rear eventually.
