The new V-6 comes damned close in terms of HP, and the rest of the engines on paper aren't even comparable.

Where have you been bro? They scratched that motor a loooooong time ago... 5.0 is the new v8 for the f150.. Along with , 3.5 ecoboost, 3.7, 6.2 ... No more 5.4

The new 2012 Shelby Super Snake Mustang runs a 5.4l 1000 HP motor, so it hasn't been scrapped all together. Funny thing is that I have watched a series that was done recently on the life of Carol Shelby and he spoke about the reason they used the 5.4 when the new 5.0 and other motors were just released and he said that it has one of the strongest blocks made.
If I had the money I would likely buy a 09 or 10 with the 5.4 and the 6 speed tranny over the new ones. Yes the new ones make quite a bit more HP, but I love the way the power is with the 5.4l, especially since I do quite a bit of towing. Although an Ecoboost would be sweet though!
I think I will hang on to mine for quite a while, and even build the motor up when it finally does go and keep it.

This makes no sense. The new engines make more power and are better on MPGs. Unless you're going to boost the hell out of the block, who cares if the 5.4 is a stronger block than the 5.0? Sure Shelby made 1,000 hp in the 2013 Shelby 1000, but thats going to cost you $200,000 out the door. As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason to want the 5.4 over the 5.0 in the trucks now unless you're going for a 1,100 HP $150,000 build
And if you're that serious about towing power in a truck, starting with gas is the wrong way to go anyways.

I believe people like them better for towing because they make max torque at a lower rpm... Maybe I'm wrong but I thought I read that on here somewhere
