Here's what I could find for stock manifolds if yours is too banged up and this "lean" thing is something to be afraid of. I still haven't seen any facts behind this, nor has anyone described the symptoms of making your truck run lean.

Great info / debate. I've been on the fence for quite some time due to the fact that I won't be able to purchase both a programmer and CAI in a close time frame. Money is tight enough. And yes, I know of the gotts mod but I don't truly trust that and/or making it perfect. I'm in the same boat as a lot owners here. Is it really worth the $$ to purchase an aftermarket product just to turn around and spend more on fixing what it damaged?
I guess in the end, I can just order one product, store it and wait til I can purchase the second item to avoid all of this.

I'm not sure of any symptoms other than increased engine cylinder temps. My suggestion would be decide on the cai you want to buy. Buy the programmer first with at least one custom tune for that intake. You can install the tuner and run one of the canned tunes till you install the cai. Just an idea

I deleted the custom tune because it was for no cats/O2 sensors. I talked with the guy who did the custom tune, he said to do this because the original owner did not sell me the actual programmer/tool, and if he was going to install another tune he'd need to charge me more money. Since I don't work the truck hard, and try to keep it under 2500 RPM, he said a performance to is not worth the $600 tool + $700 custom tune/dyno vrs the $70 dealer PCM reflash charge. But now I'm back to this whole "lean" issue.

I heard some timing chains rub on the cover and wear out the guides quickly, resulting in a big $$$ dealer fix.

Just curious. Yeah I wouldn't spend that much either. My suggestion would be call bill at power hungry performance and talk to him I have never heard anyone complain about his work
