Sorry for the misspell. Yes, I meant CAI.
And I have used more than just this forums search engine and kept getting repeated results filled with people saying yes-no-no-yes. What would you suggest spending Max on the SCT X3, and for 'custom tunes'? |
I have been searching the forums on this same issue as well. I have been finding the same results as you too....yes-no-no-yes.
the only real way to find out is strap her to a dyno and get the air/fuel done and then you will know for sure if your running lean or not. (yet to find someone to do this) |
I was wonder the same thing. Here's what I'm thinking, I'm going to insert a selfmade spacer with a hole the same size of the intake diameter as the stock intake, right after my Airaid filter. This in theory would not allow any more air than the stock intake. Thoughts???

I will do search on tunes until I can find the correct one or start a separate topic If I've got questions for them to avoid this topic from going off topic. Thank you for the heads up on the programmers!
But anyways Baire, I've been running a roush fabricated CAI. Maybe because these are two different types of fabrication and holes, it may cause fluctuating of horsepower and gas mileage between the various makes? What are some possible signs of engine lean? @ BB400guy- I don't think that would quite work because either way if you've got your foot on the throttle, that intake will be sucking as much as possible- it may create a certain spike in pressure of the air until immediately after the spacer and the air broadens and slows back down once inside the tubing? I'm not sure if i've imagined your creation correctly. |
I recently bought a 2005 Fx4 that came with an Airaid CAI, hollowed out cats, true duals with cheap loud mufflers and a custom tune. I put hi-flow cats back on, H-pipe with Flo Pro SS Max mufflers and got a Ford dealership to reflash the PCM to stock. I don't want to change back to the stock intake as it has a bunch of junk inside it, looks like mice were living in it! I doubt I could get the intake clean enought to put it back on due to it's shape/design.
Then I hear of the "lean" issue with CAI and the 2004-2008 F150's (along with the cam phaser, VCT solenoid, lash adjusters, timing chain issues... sigh). So I was thinking if I just reduce the size of the opening to the stock intake diameter, right where the Airaid filter mounts to the shield, that would limit the air to the same amount as the stock intake. The insert could go a little into the CAI tube. I was thinking if the diameter (or area of both intakes are the same), then velocity air in will be the same too. This would bring the flow of air by the MAF to about stock rate, of close enough so that the MAF would not produce a lean condition. Or am I all wrong on this??? |
srry noob here> but when ya say running lean...wat exactly do ya mean "lean"...and wat if i dnt have any of the stuff ya talk about other than dual exhuast...
