rough acceleration
My 2004 FX4 has a little problem that's been annoying me recently. My style of driving usually includes slow steady accelerations, but there seems to be a problem with the electronics of the truck that don't allow it. When you press lightly on the accelerator, nothing happens for about 1 sec, and then without moving foot, it kicks in and accelerates quickly. So to be smooth you have to press, then slowly back off as it kicks in, and it's still not smooth. And the 1 sec delay makes it slow getting off the line in the first place. The engine runs great and I've replaced the fuel filter, but I'm stymied as to what might be causing this problem. Any ideas?
There's a proceedure here that instructs you how to re-adjust the "drive by wire" accelerator pedal (what we used to know as a "gas pedal").
It's been awhile since this has come up, so I don't remember the threads title. Try searching on "gas pedal", or "drive by wire", or "calibrate".
The proceedure has you turning the key to on (don't start the engine), pressing the pedal down to the floor slow, releasing, and turning the key to off I think.
Find the thread before you do it to get the exact correct steps. This may rid you of the "dead spot" you are describing. And it's a free attempt to repair the problem!
Otherwise it could be a need of a good tune-up, throttle body cleaning, or other items that can cause hesitation. I'd try the proceedure above first.
