Heard it over and over abt this corrosion, just seein the pic, mine was replaced by PO, going to get under when weather gets better. WONDER WHY THEY DIDNT MAKE THE TOP PLATE WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE SO DEBRIS/SALT WONT STAY UP THERE.

Top plate not the issue. It's the fact that the factory module is mounted direct contact to the frame cross rail. Crap gets stuck behind it. The replacements have rubber bushings (stand- offs) to create a larger space.

Default Saved me too

After my friend took his '04 through a car wash and had it die (he did the undercarriage wash and his FPCM was badly corroded), I immediately began searching the web and stumbled across many discussions like this one. Decided to check on my own FPCM and so glad I did. Thing was probably inside of a few weeks of failing. May just be my imagination but it seems to run better now too. Thanks to everyone!

Why do people keep saying its a heat sink and not to insulate it. look at the pictures. nothing touches the back at all and it doesn't get hot, I As a independent shop owner do preventative maintenance on all of my customers 04-08 trucks, I can save most of them with a coat of grease and using 3/8 nuts as spacers. but recently I have found many of them broke in half and laying on spare tire yet still working perfectly. they of course get a new one.
